In an effort to recognize the great work done by our students, the CTE Department will begin awarding a student of the month in the following areas:  Business Education, Computer Technology, Family and Consumer Science, and Industrial Technology.  The first group of students to receive this recognition will be named in January.  This display is located outside of the Career and Technical Education Office (Room 211).

Brooks Boyer Visits Sports and Entertainment Marketing

Brooks Boyer, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing of the Chicago White Sox, visited DGN to speak to Sports and Entertainment Marketing students.  Brooks has worked with the Chicago Bulls and White Sox in marketing and sales roles.  He is recognized as being one of the best marketers in all of professional sports.   

Director of Marketing for Northwestern Athletics Visits Sports and Entertainment Marketing

Shawn Sullivan, Director of Marketing for Northwestern University Athletics, visited the Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes.  Shawn spoke about sports marketing and his role with Northwestern.  His primary responsibility is promoting NU basketball.

Students in Tony Ciezadlo's Pre-Engineering course compete against one aother during the annual boat race.  The boats are constructed using only cardboard and duct tape.  Students design the boat using CAD software, while calculating volume and water displacement.

CTE Department's Pancakes for PLCs

 The Career and Technical Education Department held a pancake breakfast for the faculty and staff of Downers Grove North the morning of November 30th.  Because this was a late arrival day for students, approximately 100 colleagues had time to gather for a breakfast.  This was the first of what we hope to make an annual event.

3D Design & Animation

Students in  Tony Ciezadlo's 3D Design & Animation class have been working on monster models.  The monster above was created by freshman Kathleen Gannon.  Students in this class utilize the same software as video game manufacturers and animated movie makers.

Pre-Engineering's Mousetrap Car Competition

Students in Tony Ciezadlo's Pre-Engineering course design and build cars fueled by the power of a mousetrap.  A competition is held to see whose design will travel the furthest distance.  The pictures above are of Gretchen Landego and Meghan Landry's car that traveled 27 feet.

Preschool Celebrates Halloween

The Downers Grove North preschool is coordinated by students in our Child Development course.  High school students create lessons suitable for learners 3-5 years old.  This video shows the preschoolers celebrating Halloween. 

Director of Public Relations for the Kane County Cougars Presents to Sports and Entertainment Marketing Students

Shawn Touney, Director of Public Relations for the Kane County Cougars, visited the Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes on October 21st.  Shawn spoke about the marketing efforts of the Cougars and offered advice for students wanting to work for a professional sports organization.

NFL Agent Mike McCartney Presents to Sports and Entertainment Marketing Students

On October 27th, Mike McCartney of Priority Sports spoke to the Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes about his job as an NFL agent.  Mike shared his experiences representing players like AJ Hawk and Rashard Mendenhall, and spoke about his role in representing and marketing his clients.  Mike is a Downers Grove resident and father of current DGN sophomore, Nicholas McCartney.
